Yahir is the in-universe term used, in some contexts, for what we would term "magic" in Undersided. It is the nature by which yarov exist and utilize their capabilities, and it is the system to which SOULs and determination belong. It is often described in-universe as being associated with concepts, expressions, and patterns rather than fixed mechanics. It can be seen as "tugging on" other systems of the world from the direct, human-interactable level. Thus we get yahiric manifestations - phenomena such as yarov with no clear explanation besides the independent system.

Effects

[edit | edit source]

The chief effect of yahir is to allow the expressions of emotions and ideas to have a physical impact on the world beyond direct actions that said ideas drive their bearers to take. The result of this can be seen all throughout societies in Yona: in Vanki culture, entities, called donzhai or yarov, are manifested from the collective will of a social unit to handle certain social stability and labor duties in society; independent populations of yarov may innately produce effects from their individual emotional expressions (see yaref). In Zerahai, a group of grebs has manifested a consistent yaref-like identity embodied in a physical body to function as an organizing principle and a form of 'deity'; in Liruzon, a similar effect has occurred wherein the Historian of Monselian is a set of personality traits and memories associated with a role; the person occupying that role rapidly converges to the Historian's identity due to the collective belief of the people of Rahazun. Similarly, it renders "tulpas" extremely easy to create, such that one can easily emerge just from engaging in roleplay for an extended period of time.

Life and light

[edit | edit source]

Yahir can cause a high degree of diversity and presence of life in places that would otherwise be uninhabitable, as well as providing "ambient" illumination to significant degrees in regions.

Sustenance

[edit | edit source]

Because of this "tug", it is possible to utilize a form of "yahiric food" to satiate sustenance needs - this works best for yarov, but can work marginally well for humans as well as shown by Magzi's life in the Ebott Underground alongside the Yahiraban culture.
