This page covers the astronomical details of the Silverpath Galaxy and the Sinyo star system, which Undersided's primary planet of Yona is located in.

The galaxy and extrasolar objects

[edit | edit source]

The Silverpath Galaxy is a medium spiral galaxy (Sc), about 70,000 ly across, which is estimated to contain about 50 billion stars, including Sinyo.

The center of the galaxy is home to the Eye of Ramazir, an extremely luminous active galactic nucleus that appears as the brightest "star" in the night sky from Yona, with a bright "nebula" surrounding it. It is unseen during the northern winter due to its location in the sky. The galaxy is approximately 4.3 billion years old, almost as old as the universe itself at 5.1 billion years old.

The name of the Silverpath Galaxy is attributed to ancient Hesanic astronomy, and specifically the writings of Liudai which described the appearance of the galaxy in that manner, likely due to the existent strong association of silver with the stars.

The Silverpath is part of the local cluster of galaxies along with the similarly-sized Evartagna Galaxy, which is approximately 700,000 light years away.

The Sun, or Sinyo (name from Hesanic: /'sinjo/), is an F4 VI subdwarf, which is approximately 3.1 billion years old. It is the star around which Yona orbits. As a subdwarf, it is low in metals.

Zia, or Haida, is the closest planet to the Sun, and also the smallest, at only 0.2 Earth radii in width, about 1/4 times the size of Yona. It has the highest metal content of any planet in the system.
