An '''automaton''' is any inorganic, artificial structure that imitates a sapient being such as a human. They are described as being made of "metal and magic". Recent automata (as of [[Timeline/900-999 SR|913 SR]]) are sapient enough to develop [[SOUL|SOULs]], though most well-known cases (such as [[Axis]]) are significantly more simplistic. Some are simply bodies for ghosts such as [[Merabor]] to inhabit. == Development notes == The term "robot" from Undertale is not used in Undersided. This is because the creator consistently uses "robot" in the sense of the robots from R.U.R. in their other works, a concept which is not present in Undersided.
