Culturally, they place a high focus on aesthetics and have little flexibility in their opinions, alongside often failing to recognize emergent problems in society. They also have long-standing bad relations with the [[grebs]]. The term "'''Maier'''" refers to the Mairo nation as a collective.

The Mairoi are inspired by humans from discarded iterations of Crow's worldbuild "Year 0", which has a faction called the "Myrre" (pronounced similarly to Maier). Additionally, the name is inspired by Mairon (Sauron) from Lord of the Rings.

The Avangani are a human ethnicity living in [[Zemirabel]]. Notably, they are very small (weighing 0.5lbs and being only 6 inches tall). As a result, they are very agile and able to jump, climb, and take falls that standard humans couldn't at an analogous scale. This also means that they are on the lower end of what is reasonable for a sapient being. Living in the rainforests of Zemirabel and having their small size, they build both vertical arboreal settlements and underground villages.

Culturally, they often get caught up in idealized, abstract versions of things, seeing reality as a corruption of that ideal rather than the ideal as a flawed model. They also often see geometry as the highest form of math. Interestingly, their mythology places rather large emphasis on the sizes of various mythological beings, likely influenced by historical encounters with much larger human variants

A similar race is the Poralui, who live in the urban areas of [[Indadvi]] and take advantage of existing [[Wila]] society. They were historically seen as pests by those of Indadvi, but relations have been improving.

The Tazelo are a variant of human native to [[Denuri]]. Physically, they vary much more in color and patterning than in actual features, conversely to the other human races. Culturally, they have a culture that suppresses even the [[Wila|Myalvist]] sense of individuality, for a more communist vibe, and somewhat contradictorily, have an extremely strong sense of personal ownership.

There is, in particular, a "slave" class of tazelo, which are owned by other tazelo or people from completely different societies, although they are more status symbols to be traded rather than exploited for labor, so the term 'slave' is somewhat inaccurate.

In general, this kind of "ownership" imposes a ton of background constraints on a person's life (mainly to do with who they interact with socially, where they go, etc) but doesn't directly inhibit foreground day-to-day stuff other than being a clearly defined social role and some moderate social class expectations (although this doesn't stop some people who are less familiar with the customs, or some power grabbers, from acquiring more control anyway, which is a problem that social systems attempt to address). Said clearly defined social role is an on-demand "actor/model/"showing off" position.

They are closely related to the [[Slachi]]. Their mythology reflects this, as while Slachi have at least some references in most mythologies, Tazelo culture is unique in positing that Slachi were once people like them who "ascended".

Culturally, one key point of cultural philosophy is the concept of bicameralism (a philosophical separation of the mind into "speaking" and "listening" parts, where the "speaking" part derives from an extradimensional force personalized to each agent, called an ''[[urbax]]'').

It is from this that the natural variances in mental structure and behavior are explained. The other key cultural concept relating to mentality is the idea of "mindforms", culturally-defined categories of neurotype patterns which correspond to expected roles in society. For example, people with delusional or hallucinatory disorders might be placed in positions of religious significance, sociopaths in positions where their detached attitude is necessary (such as in military planning), and people with anxiety might be partnered up with highly empathic people in cases where excessive worry and consideration is warranted. Panavic culture attributes a huge amount to the inherent nature of a person, following on from this.

More generally, the idea of a generic "position of authority" is foreign to Panavic culture - instead, things like rulers, social leaders, etc often have particular roles they are expected to serve. In particular, rulers are considered public [[Labor|servants]] as much as police workers are, just with much greater responsibility. They are analogized as caretakers or parents.

In Panavic thought, "truth" is judged based on what is applicable and sensible, not a sense of absolute truth as a goal. In Panavic culture, marriage is associated with sex and reproduction, but not with romantic relationships, which are defined along the same lines as [[Best friend|close family-like friendships]].

The [[Donna|Donno]] (singular: Donna) are an ethnicity that has lived in [[Liruzon]] and [[Vana]] for a long time. The '''Vanki''' culture is associated with them. Ancient Donna/Vanki practices included the influencing of conceptual gestalts to manifest [[yarov]] for specified purposes in their society. This is the origin of the very high yaref population native to [[Iltezon]].

The Vanki social system overwhelmingly uses [[yarov]] as a catch-all solution to various problems, taking advantage of their native magical capabilities in lieu of particularly complex technology, and more significantly of their natural friendliness as an aid to social cohesion. The Vanki social system utilizes ~100-person small family units, which function as the scale at which they do their social engineering, which are "held together" into much larger social groups by specific manifested yarov assigned to certain roles. Additionally, there are often large groups of yarov making up specific organizational structures in Vanki society. Because yarov function as lifeforms, this results in populations of yarov slowly accumulating in Vanki areas that have been inhabited in the long-term, and as a result the Vanki families end up pushed out of their own societies and re-establish in new areas, with new yarov, therefore continuing the large-scale cycle of Vanki society. The structure of a large Vanki empire thus generally consists of a city of yarov at its "nucleus" and surrounding Vanki settlements.

The Donno also are the origin of the [[Koratar]] myth. A more recent Donna influence is [[Lucorshi]], a political union and former empire that formed in recent centuries and contains a number of Vanki states. The [[Vainadiv]] is a Vanki doctrine. Physically, Donno are of medium height and body type, with feline ears and tail.

The '''Wilo''' (singular: '''Wila''') are a subrace of [[humans]] living mainly in [[Indadvi]]. They are notable for having established colonies in [[Liruzon]] in the form of [[Myalvi]]. Physically, they resemble standard real-life humans of a medium or light skin tone, though culturally they obscure this with cloaks and hoods, so they don't look very human at all.

The most distinct feature of Wila culture is their extreme absolutist ideology, which covers anything from science to religion. Their deity, [[Hierrau]], is singular and all-powerful, and they have a notable ideology of normativity, where everyone that falls outside of given socially acceptable bounds is considered "disordered" and "wrong". Additionally, they have an unusual level of distinction between romance and close friendships, and an overall low degree of expected investment in personal relationships. This is in stark contrast to the [[Panavic]] ideology of mindforms and contextual relevance of models.

Out of universe, the Wilo are heavily inspired by a mix of American and Enlightenment European ideology and culture, with a sprinkle of Islamic theology.

"Malakon" is taken from the term ''Malacon'' from TheKaiwolf's "The Kheil" worldbuild. Due to Kai's unusual stances regarding derivatives, Vector has come up with a list of possible alternative names for the race in case Kai demands the name be replaced:

There were some other considered names that also ended in -kon and served as a dark joke about the race's appearance, but these were scrapped due to being too edgy for comfort.

Yarov exaggerate the nature of human society to some extent, often having a very positive attitude associated with love, hope, and compassion. They also reflect the social context in which they originated. However, this is also contributed to by the general conception of a level of animacy somewhere between humans and non-human animals. Yarov are also rather impressionable to humans overall, along with being much weaker in general.

Yarov, rather notably, are particularly happy with taking much less "animate" roles than humans. This is for the most part a result of the fact that they have native magical capabilities and therefore historically relied less on tools and technology; other contributing factors include their general impressionability, strong social motivations (such as to be 'helpful'), and for yarov of Liruzon the social context in which they originated.

Yarov appear as many different things, from animals, to objects, to forms very similar to humans. Regardless, their forms are rather abstracted and do not take the internal structure or biological function of the things they represent. They have just enough physicality to enable their manifestation, resulting in exaggerated poses, proportions, and behaviors, inconsistent physical details, and rapid healing and recovery. They eat, and sleep, and talk, and feel pain, and joy, and have families, but they do not have stomachs, nor brains, nor lungs, nor nerves, nor hearts, nor reproductive organs. They also have extremely simplified and abstracted versions of physical needs, essentially being just a simple [[Yahiric food|sustenance]] requirement

Yarov utilize "magic" to express themselves, though physical manifestations of yareva expression (along with other such things) are not considered "magic" in-universe. This can also be used for attacking or healing, or for other practical effects.

=== SOULs and death ===
Yarov have [[SOUL|SOULs]], though except for [[Boss yaref|boss yarov]] the SOUL is not actually distinguishable from the yaref itself, and vanishes upon the yaref's death. Yarov given [[determination]] have their physical forms break down into a vague, amorphous state at the point where they would have otherwise died.

Yarov usually weaken with age. At the end of a yaref's natural lifespan, it enters a "fallen down" state where the body persists albeit unconscious. Within days to weeks, the yaref dies and turns to dust as the projected form dissolves. This dust carries an "imprint" of the yaref's identity the same way a human corpse does for a human.

== Culture ==
Yarov often inherit cultural practices from the human cultures they interact with, though usually in a "broken", mixed up, and superficial kind of manner, lacking strict, rigid customs. For example, most yarov in [[Liruzon]] and [[Ezvelan]] do not wear clothing and those who do follow a strange mix of customs. They also speak [[Panavic language]] for the most part, although their names can often be from a variety of sources, but they do not particularly follow either Panavic or [[Ezef|Ezeva]] religious customs, besides some exceptional cases.

=== Thariel ===
The Thariel people living underneath the mountains of [[Hesan]] build their settlements into the sides of natural columns and into cave walls. This area also contains one of the primary entrances from the Underground to the surface, the caves of [[Yan-Urden]], including the "[[Thariel Cleft]]", a long vertical gap in the terrain located above the upper levels of the [[Brevo]] region, into which has been diverted the flows of a former tributary of the [[Arelbanz]] along with the rivers that flow into that place naturally; the waterfall has historically powered the city of [[Pharelzolde]] which is located within the chasm.

=== Robanagari ===
The Robanagari regularly interacted with the [[Panavic]] nations of the region during [[Hesan]]'s height, but since have isolated themselves from surface contact. It is from them, however, that the precursors of [[Ilgirism|Ilgiric]] metaphysics originated, before the Thariel brought the ideas to [[Ezvelan]] in the [[Timeline/300-399 SR|4th century.]]

=== Sharila ===
Various isolated Razil communities exist beneath [[Kan'fi]] and [[Lestn]], inhabiting the narrow, maze-like caverns in the region of "[[Sharila-fi]]", and carving their cities to follow the natural course of the caves. While mining makes up a large part of all Razila economies, it is particularly emphasized in Sharila-fi culture, with mines often doubling as other useful structures, partly due to the low amount of free space in the area also leading to very compact living.

=== Shinarazi ===
There has been consistent tension between the surface nations in [[Liruzon]] surrounding [[Rahazun]] and the underground communities (the Shinarazi) beneath. This can be chalked up to disputes over resources and to cultural differences (the Shinarazi tend to have a strong sense of hierarchy, prestige, and social standing based on previous actions, a concept which is completely foreign to Rahazun, and even to [[Myalvi]]). This is also the region of the Underground other than the Vana with the largest percentage of [[yaref]] population, even ignoring [[Yarzon-Ebott]] when it was trapped underground.

=== Kalivri ===
The Kalivri people heavily take after [[Vanki]] culture due to historical [[Lucorshi|Lucorshian]] occupation of the region, and influence from previous Vanki populations which were forced out of the surface region by [[Ezef|Ezeva]] nations (there are even a large number of donno in the underground area), and are the group with the strongest contact with the surface world except the Thariel group which even then maintains a good sense of independent cultural identity.

The result of this can be seen all throughout societies in Yona: in Vanki culture, entities, called [[Yarov|donzhai]] or yarov, are manifested from the collective will of a social unit to handle certain social stability and labor duties in society; independent populations of yarov may innately produce effects from their individual emotional expressions (see [[yaref]]). In Zerahai, a group of [[grebs]] has manifested a consistent yaref-like identity embodied in a physical body to function as an organizing principle and a form of 'deity'; in Liruzon, a similar effect has occurred wherein the Historian of Monselian is a set of personality traits and memories associated with a role; the person occupying that role rapidly converges to the Historian's identity due to the collective belief of the people of Rahazun. Similarly, it renders "tulpas" extremely easy to create, such that one can easily emerge just from engaging in roleplay for an extended period of time.

The Underground is a massive region located below the [[Surface]], consisting of a network of cave systems and caverns underneath the entire surface world. The Underground has many different environments, such as [[Brevo]] (a flooded region) and other environments including:

* Volcanic regions, like [[Hotland]]
* Regions with other special features like crystal deposits, such as those found in the [[Robanagari]] region
* Lower extensions of surface environments such as forests, induced by [[yahiric]] manifestation
* Wide-open caverns like Brevo and [[Shinarazi]]
* Very narrow, cramped caverns like [[Sharila]]
